Desktop Computers

A desktop computer is a personal computer in a form intended for regular use at a single location. Desktop indicates a horizontally oriented computer case. Most modern desktop computers have separate screens and keyboards. Desktop computers are usually cheaper than other newer computers. They are easier to service and upgrade than portable computers and usually have a longer life. Desktops have several standardized expansion slots, this means that a desktop can be customized and upgraded to a greater extent than portable computers. Procedures for disassembly of desktops tend to be simple too.

A laptop is a personal computer for mobile use. It integrates most of the components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device, and speakers into a single unit. A laptop is powered by electricity via an AC adapter, and can be used away from any outlet using a rechargeable battery. Laptops are very popular now. They are small, light, cheaper now, powerful and as screens became larger and offer better quality, laptops became used for all sorts of purposes. Most laptops have wireless access built in, giving users access to the Internet almost anywhere they go.

Some differences between desktops and laptops are:
  • The screen size on laptops is according to the PC. For desktops you can choose any size screen you want to use.
  • A laptop is portable, a desktop is not.
  • Desktops are cheaper than laptops.
  • Desktop components are standardized and laptop components are much more specialized.
